Shirley's collie, Jasper:

Jasper came to us in December of 1998 as a rescue needing a home. We placed him with a family after spending a few wonderful weeks with him. In July the following year, he returned to us. My husband was delighted, never really wanting to let him go. That is when our lives changed. Jasper was so outgoing he became the mascot for rescue. He was interviewed on the news several times, and featured in news periodicals. Jasper loved a parade and dressed for any occasion. He helped raise money and find welcome homes for his fellow rescued collies. I made Jasper and his foster siblings halloween costumes and walked them through the neighborhood every year. There were many people who gave out dog biscuits and food and took their pictures. He never turned down the occasional hug from a child, burying themselves in his massive mane. He would just lay down and let them snuggle with him. He was such the gentle boy.

On August 22, '03 he was taken from us. Our vet verified because of his youth and good health, he had to have had a heart attack; just not sure why. It is hard to grasp when someone so vibrant and beautiful is taken from us in their prime. He touched the lives of neighbors, friends, vets, and rescue groups.

Sleep peacefully my beautiful boy.....until we meet again
